No Cars Go
Today I heard the Arcade Fire’s “No Cars Go,” which reminded me of the times we have covered it at the religious gathering I have the privilege to serve. When addressing the Kingdom of God – a big idea, of course – we have sought to use different songs that explicate the importance of the Kingdom, as opposed to our kingdoms, churches, nations, etc. I’ve never been a huge U2 fan, but we’ve used “Where the Streets Have No Names,” as well.
I think we covered “No Cars Go” while we partook of communion. It’s perfect, really:
We know a place where no planes go
We know a place where no ships go
Hey! No cars go. Hey! No cars go
Where we knowWe know a place no space ships go
We know a place where no subs go
Hey! No cars go! Hey! No cars go!
Where we knowNo go!
Hey! Us kids know
Hey! No cars go
Where we knowBetween the click of the light and the start of the dream
Between the click of the light and the start of the dream
Between the click of the light and the start of the dream
Between the click of the light and the start of the dreamI don’t want any pushing,
and I don’t want any shoving.
We’re gonna do this in an orderly manner,
Little babies, let’s go!
Women and children, let’s go!
Old folks, let’s go!
Don’t know where we’re going.
We need to work in “Black Mirror” sometime too. Now that’d be preaching.
